Feng Shui: Put the Spark Back in Your Marriage
Anything worth having is worth working hard for, and marriage is no exception. What many people may not realize is once you have entered into marriage, the work does not end. It takes time and energy to keep a marriage going and even more to keep it from stagnating and becoming dull. Love and commitment are obviously the biggest forces in maintaining a marriage, and it goes without saying that many couples can find themselves in a periods of discontent or simple boredom. Generations of people have all explored their own unique ways to liven up their marriage, including employing the techniques of Feng Shui.
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese practice of placement and color used to achieve harmony. This art form teaches that simple choice of color and placing things in a pleasing way can bring good energy into your home, office and life. The beginning of any good Feng Shui cure, and good housekeeping, is clearing up your clutter. If there is clutter in your home, there is clutter in your life. Good energy cannot possibly travel through the clutter and reach it’s destination, causing all energy to become stale. The next thing you will want to focus on is your bedroom.
If you have pictures in your bedroom of your family, children or friends you will want to remove them. Your bedroom should represent the couple and only the couple. Take out anything that represents someone else. If you have children and random toys seem to accumulate in your bedroom, remove them at once. Replace pictures of others with either pictures of you and your spouse happily together or art work that represents love.
Flowers are a good representation of romanticism but make sure you use them in pairs, and be sure they don’t have pointy leaves. African Violets in pairs are a perfect flower for any bedroom. The main color for this area is pink, but red and white are good runners up. Most men probably wouldn’t be too comfortable in a completely pink room so a good place to add this element is in the color of the African Violet blooms. Keep your plants in healthy order though - if one or both plants begin to wilt quickly dispose of them and replace them.
Another place to look is your bed. If you have a king size bed you may have two separate twin size box springs underneath your mattress. The divide in the box springs may be adding to the divide in your marriage. A simple fix is putting a red cloth over the box springs to counteract the split. An easy way to do this is to get a red fitted sheet and put over both box springs like you would a mattress, then put your bed together as you normally would.
While most of this, other then the red sheet on your box springs, may sound like good housekeeping or simple decorating techniques, there are other things to know when dealing with Feng Shui. The right back area of your house is the marriage and love center of your home. If you were to walk in the front door you would look for the room that is to your right and closest to the back of the house. You can apply some of the same elements that you use in your bedroom to this area as well, such as the color pink or pair of African Violets. If it’s an appropriate place, like your living room, this could be a good area to display your wedding portrait or a picture of the two of you when you were especially happy.
With a few simple changes that help reinvent the energy that flows through your home you can extend that to the energy that flows through your marriage. You are essentially creating a haven for the two of you to reconnect every night. It doesn’t need to be anything elaborate - in fact the less elaborate, the better. Just create a place for you to remember what your marriage means to you and why you are committed to continue working for it.
