Water is one of the five most important elements to be considered when analysing the Feng Shui of a property.

Water is believed to mirror the flow of Chi that circulates the earth, and its orientation to a particular home or office will determine whether it is considered sheng chi (positive energy) – which brings wealth and prosperity or, sha chi (negative energy) – which manifests itself in the physical loss of money and the loss of money-making opportunities.

Water in Feng Shui is usually employed for wealth creation and it is an important tool for stimulating this aspect of your life. It is important, however, to ensure that it is a balanced and harmonious flow of water if you want a favourable result.

When oriented correctly, water and all the various manifestations of water that are within view of the main door or entrance of a building can attract great fortunes.

The influence of Yin and Yang is a very important consideration when assessing a site and this is also the case when considering the elements and their impact.

Water has a yin and yang characteristic. Yin water is murky, almost stagnant water whereas yang water is clear and moving strongly. A balance between the two is unpolluted, clear water moving in a meandering motion, that is moving neither too fast or too slow.  

Balance is the key.

Another thing to consider is whether the water exists naturally or has been shaped by man.

Natural water is part of the landscape and includes the ocean, rivers, lakes and waterfalls which all occur in various shapes and sizes.  Natural water is considered to be superior to artificially created water and to tap into these for the production of wealth requires a lot of skill and a very deep understanding of the form school and compass school applications of Feng Shui.

For most of us, however, life is in the suburbs where the presence of natural water is most unlikely. Even though it is not as potent, artificially created water such as ponds and fountains can be very effective.

So, if it’s missing, stimulate nature and create artificial water.

Some examples of positive and negative natural water are:-

1.)    There could be missed opportunities if the water flows behind the home.

2.)    Good Feng Shui prevails when the water meanders past the main door.

3.)    Water is flowing directly towards the front door of this home and is considered threatening.

4.)    This home is being auspiciously embraced by water.
