Our ancients considered the dwelling to be a living organization with rhythm in it. Proportion was of prime importance.

Temples with several stories were built in such a way that the height of each story decreased as it went up. The building is compared to~a musical instrument whose distance between the strings reduces as they go up. Such a building is said to vibrate with rhythm and grace.

A multistoried building can be compared to a veena (a stringed musical instrument) in which the distance between the consecutive rods of the shaft reduces gradually to give the most melodious music. The foliowingjieights for the yarious floors c an be followed.

First floor      5/6 of Ground Floor
Second floor  6/7 of First Floor
Third floor     7/8 of Second Floor and so on.

This gradual and rhythmic reduction in each floor will create a harmonious and uniform energy level in the entire building.

Brihat Samhita and Matsyapurana recommend a gradual reduction by l/12th in each floor.

We have to pay attention towards following points when we choose a land or doing construction or buy a building for commercial purpose

Examine the land & building by vastu parameters, shape ,gravity, slope, nearest road from building.
Position & Direction of boring, buster pump, underground tank.
Parts and numbers of building
which part of land should be use in construction.
route of beams in a building .
Shape & design.
Open space in commercial complex.
Direction of main Gate.
Placement of electric transformer, generator, Inverter, switch board etc.
Position of drainage system.
direction of offices in commercial complex.
Which area of commercial complex should be use for offices
Which area of commercial complex should be use for showrooms.
Which area of complex should be use for clinic or medical stores.
Which area should be use for canteen, restaurant, bakery or sweet shop.
Which part of land should be use for Parking of cars & heavy vehicle as well as parking area for two wheeler or light vehicles.
Plantation of trees.
Installation of fountain.

The main criterion is to make maximum use of land and vertical space and build as many apartments as possible. Many people wonder how vastu can be applied to already built apartments.

The first option is we have to go for a flat.

The second option is the selection of the flat. This is free will and we have the choice.

Remembering the Manasara sloka, which interprets (partly) that if the merits (of Vastu) are more than the demerits, it is said to be good, we can consider the following in order of priority.

1. Southwest Master Bedroom
2. Southeast or northwest Kitchen
3. An east of northeast entry
4. More openings on the north and east.

Once the selection is made, next strengthen the interiors as follows:
1. Sleep to the southwest corner (without touching the walls) with the head to the south.
2. Arrange the furniture such that the north and east as well as the Brahmasthana of the rooms are free.
3. If wall sceneries are used have such ones that depict depth, distant seas, deep gardens, bubbling infants etc. on the north and east walls. Avoid beautifying your living areas with scenes depicting violence, terror, cruelty, stark poverty, death etc. to put it simply avoid paintings and sceneries which depict the negative aspects of life.

This way the vastu strength can be enhanced to improve the general quality of one’s life.
