The right place for kitchen is the southeast sector of the building. Face the east while cooking. The ovens and the electrical and gas stoves can be in the southeast corner of the kitchen. The alternate place for the kitchen, in case you are not able to have the kitchen in the southeast is the northwest sector of the building.

South-east portion of the building is the place for your kitchen. Even though some authors permit the north-west, this writer is of the firm conviction that as south-east is ruled by Agni or the fire-god, the southeast kitchen is best.

We have to take care of the following points while studying about the vastu of the kitchen.

· Proper location of the kitchen in the house.

· The direction of the Entrance.

· The direction and placement of the windows.

· The direction and placement of the cooking gas.

· The direction to face while cooking.

· The direction and placement of the sink.

· The direction and placement of gyser.

· The direction and placement of the refrigerator.

· The direction and placement of the electric equipments.

· The direction and placement of the gas cylinders.

· The direction and placement of storage.

· The colour scheme of the kitchen.

· Direction of door.

· Position of window.

· Position of slab, basin, and tap.

· Placement & direction of water related stuff.

· Placement & direction of heater, gas, stove, oven.

· Placement & direction of fridge, mixer, toaster, floor grinder.

· Position of shelf.
The kitchen can have an east platform for cooking. The micro ovens and gas stoves can be placed more to the south-eastTcorner such that the lady of the house does the cooking facing east

(1). Try to have the platform stand on supports so that do not touch the east and south walls. The sink for washing can be in the north-east corner of the kitchen

(2). Big windows and ventilators can be provided on the east and smaller windows on the south. The exhaust fan can be on the eastern wall towards the south-east corner. Have the kitchen door either in the north of north-east or west of north-west

(3). Lofts and almirahs for storage can be on the south and west sides

(4). Dishwashers can be to the northwest of the room

(5). To stimulate appetite have your kitchen walls painted soft pink or orange.

As good food is indicative of financial strength, a mirror on the north of eastern wall of the kitchen will likely help strengthen finances. Drinking water can be placed in the north-east, brooms and cleaning materials in the north-west and stocks of rice, dal and other heavy materials can be kept in the south-west of the kitchen. In case the south-east kitchen is not possible, you can do with the north-west of the building. But make sure that the observations made above for the south­east kitchen are followed.

Vastu tips for kitchen:

• The ideal place for the location of kitchen is the southeast corner. An alternative choice can be the northwest corner of the house

• As per the Vastu remedies for kitchen, certain directions, which are a total no for the construction of the kitchen, are: Northeast, mid-north, mid-west, southwest mid-south or the center.

• Make sure that the cooking platform does not touch eastern or northern side wall.

• The best direction for cooking is facing east, as this direction is considered to be auspicious.

• No shelf should be placed above the cooking platform.

• Refrigerator can be placed on the northwest corner in the kitchen.

• While constructing the kitchen, make adequate provision for cross ventilation.

• Keep your kitchen free of triangular, circular or irregular shapes – believed to lead to instability

• Colours such as red (fire), green (harvest/fertility), yellow, blue and orange (purity) would be good to paint a kitchen.

• Heavy equipment such as the refrigerator and freezer should be in the west or southwest section of the kitchen.

• Windows in the kitchen should be facing east, north or northeast.

• Never have a kitchen in the northeast sector (known as the “gateway to the gods’).

• Electrical equipment such as microwaves, toasters, kettles and such should always be placed in the southeast (fire) corner of the kitchen.

• The kitchen is seen as a “wet room” and should therefore be always receive natural air and sunlight.
