Vastu For Selection of Site
Selection of the right site is very important while the application of Vastu to a house/place. Select a site that is oriented to the cardinal direction, viz., north, east, south or west. Avoid sites that are triangular, circular, oval other irregular shapes. Avoid proximity to religious places and sites near factories and industries which are said to be places of disturbance. Avoid smaller sites in between two bigger plots.
Square or rectangular sites are good. If you already have a site and are planning to buy additional land, avoid buying land that is to south, west, south-west, south-east or north-west of your site. Buy any land that is to your north, east or north-east.
Examination of Soil
The examination of the soil is another important aspect of Vastu. Brihat Samhita says that the soil should be soft, of sweet smell and taste and not hollow underneath.
A test for finding the suitability of the soil as given by the wise men of India for construction of your house is given here.
Dig up a pit in the site at sunrise. Next morning again at the same time fill it up with the dug up soil.
If the pit overflows, the soil is said to be fit for building. If the pit just fills, the site is moderate and if the pit is insufficiently filled, the site is not fit for construction.
Shape of the Plot
-A square plot is the most ideal. A rectangular plot upto the ratio of 1:2 is also good. The longer side is preferred towards the east.
-A triangular or circular plot leads to instability, One should never purchase a pentangular, hexagonal or a haphazard plot. If such a plot is purchased, then a square or rectangular part of it can be used and the remaining portion should be sold or abandoned or separated by building a compound wall.
-Except the north-east corner, extension in any other direction is not proper. By making such plots rectangular, they can be used.
-A plot with the north-east cut off should never be purchased. A plot with north-west cut off is also not good but can be used by cutting off the north.
-A plot, which extends in the north-east direction, is the best of all plots.
Purchase of Land
You should never purchase the land from the following persons as the atmosphere of the particular space depends on the people living there.
- From people suffering from sickness , lunatics.
- From people who have become insolvent.
- Land donated to any religious place.
- Land without any deed.
- From people who have left the country.
- The place where magicians used to live.
- Land containing ant-hills , bones , skeletons.
- Houses sold by distressed , unfortunate people.
