Now that you have read this book you will find examples of good and bad feng shui everywhere you go. Recently, my wife and I attended a wedding reception at a local hotel. I was interested to find a fountain playing outside the main entrance and a pa-kua symbol created in the patterns of the tiles leading up to the front entrance. Two stone lions stood guard outside these doors. When we walked inside, we found ourselves looking at a large, round mirror with a gold frame. All of these things were new since our last visit. It was just another sign that feng shui has come of age and is being accepted throughout the world.

About ten years ago, a friend of mine who is a property developer decided to use feng shui principles in all of his projects. This was not because he believed in feng shui; it was done purely because he thought it might help him sell more properties to Asian buyers. He was surprised to find that his properties sold better than ever before to people of all nationalities and races. This was because his buildings were harmonious and felt pleasant to prospec­tive buyers. My friend is no longer skeptical, and last time I visited him he was feeding the eight gold and one black fish in his aquarium. This combination of fish means “money, money, money, and protection.” The water in the aquarium represent.* money. The gold of the goldfish also represents moniy. There are eight goldfish and, as you know, number eight means money, also. Finally, the black fish is in the aquarium for protection. Whenever a fish dies, it is a sign that some disaster has been averted. Naturally, my friend would replace any dead fish right away.

If you were to visit my wife and me in our home, you would find that we have made it as comfortable as possi­ble by using the ideas explained in this book. We found that our family life improved as soon as we made some simple adjustments.

Now it is up to you. Start by making one or two minor changes in your own home. Wait for a week or two to see what changes you notice, and then make a few more. Over a period of time you will notice the quality of your life improving. Friends will comment on how warm and friendly your home is. They may even mention beneficial changes in you and members of your family. If they ask for an explanation, tell them something about feng shui. Achieving harmony and balance in your life is fantastic, but it is a special privilege to be able to introduce it to the lives of your friends. You will be able to give them good advice and tell them where to buy books on the subject.

Back in the 1960s when I was first introduced to feng shui, it was rare to find anyone else who knew anything about it. Today, most people have heard of it, and many know some of the basic principles. I hope that you will carry on with your studies in the fascinating subject.
