Puja Ghar : The North-East Zone for Good Health
There is a custom of worship in every house of the world. In our country the Pujaghar (Temple) is constructed in the north-east zone as per religious customs. If there is some trouble in a house and the temple is not in the north-east zone, then it is accredited to the wrong place of the temple by the Vaastu consultants. The temple is then shifted to the northeast zone. The Vaastu consultants even demolish some part of the house, if required, in order to shift the temple in the north-east zone. They will then suggest the idol of the God will face which direction. Some will suggest that the person offering the puja should face the east while others will suggest the opposite.
Most of the time it has been observed that after this, as per Vaastu change too things do not change. In fact, it is not necessary to keep the temple in the north-east zone. The Muslims of the whole world offer their “Namaz” facing the Kaba. That’s why the Muslims of India, Dubai, Oman, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China and Indonesia face west while offering their Namaz. In other religions also people construct temples as per their planning. Followers of other communities are also happy or unhappy in the same proportion as the Hindus.
Temple of the house should be in the north-east zone as per the requirements of good health. The scientific reason behind this is that the base of the whole universe is the Sun. There is no life without the sun. That’s why we worship the sun in the morning.
Morning sun rays are good for health of everybody. Fortunately in our country we get sun and sun rays throughout the year. To get maximum benefit of this kind of nature in Hindu religion there is a tradition of bathing, offering water to the sun and then worshipping in the morning.
The principles of the Vastu shastra were prepared considering the sun as base. As per the Vaastushaastra there must be ample space in the north-east zone of the building. To allow the morning sun rays containing infrared rays, the boundary wall in the north-east zone should be lower than the south-west zone. When a person takes bath in the morning and offers water to the sun. the sun rays pass through the water and touch his body. These rays are quite advantageous to health. That’s why all the water sources of the house, e.g. underground water tank, well and tube-well etc. are kept in the north-east zone. When the morning sun rays touch this water it becomes very useful for the health. If the temple in the house is in the north-east zone then, the family members will have to come there to offer puja and they will be benefited with the morning sun rays. Thus all the family members will be healthy, happy and prosperous.
It has been confirmed, scientifically too, that there are a lot of useful elements for our body in the morning sun rays. For example if we apply oil to our body and stand in the sunlight then we get vitamin D. This controls diabetes.
The sun rays seem white in colour with naked eyes. In fact, they consist of seven colours, i.e. violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange and red. All these seven colours affect our health specially. Colour therapy and naturopathy have many applications of sun rays. The intensity of these rays kills bacteria. It has been observed that the patients admitted to those rooms, which get morning sun rays, get well soon. The patients in the rooms where morning sun rays do not enter take a long time to get well.
In the USA, they came to a conclusion after two-year observation that the workers of a supermarket were healthy and happy where the morning sun rays entered. This has made that supermarket more successful than the others.
Residents of a building, where noon sun rays enter, do not possess good health, because the noon sun rays contain UV rays which are harmful to the body. To avoid the contact with these harmful UV rays of the noon Vaastushaastra suggests higher walls and fewer windows in the south and west. Contact with these UV rays with the north-east water source is also contraindicated.
The reason behind keeping ample space in the north-east zone of a building is also the movement of the sun. When the sun is in the north direction for six months it is called Uttarayana. It moves in the south direction for the next six months. It is called Daksinayana. The duration for the Uttarayana is from 21st December to 20th June. The sun remains Daksinayana from 21s1 June to 20th December. During Uttarayana the day increases gradually every month. While during Dakshinayana the night length increases every month. The advantageous sun rays come to the earth till noon when the sun is in Uttarayana.
When it is in Dakshinayana, the sun rays become harmful in the noon itself. Hence to take most advantage of Uttarayana sun rays our rishi and munis advised to leave ample space in the north direction of the building.
Whenever our rishi-munis and learned ancestors found something useful and advantageous for the common people, they presented it in the form of a religious tradition. It is a general observation that usually people of any religious faith do not break their religious tradition. That’s why the temple in any house is supposed to be in the north-east zone so that people could take advantage of the morning sun rays. The north-east should be lower and the south-west higher. It is sad to note that many Vaastu consultants do not know the exact reason behind keeping the temple of the house in the north-east zone.
In past some years Vaastushaastra has had deep effect on the heart of the common Indian people. Nowadays almost all the newspapers and magazines print articles on the Vaastushaastra.
Many books are available on this subject in the market. Most of these are the copies of 3-4 books printed in the year 1993-94. Nobody has done any research. It was in the first 3-4 books of the Vaastushaastra that the temple of the house was recommended in the north-east zone. The north-east zone should be low and the walls of the south west region of the building should be higher etc. All the authors copied these conditions as such in their books. It created an impression that all the Vastu consultants unanimously agree to all these conditions. This created a tradition to construct temple in the north-east zone. They started advising people to make southÂwest walls higher than the TV antennas, poles; bamboo and pipes too.
We Indians always believe in whatever is said with reference to some old books. It’s typical Indian mentality. We do not even try to know the scientific truth behind it. If there is a verse in Sanskrit supporting whatever is being said, this makes it perfect for acceptance. On the contrary, you will find contradictions in the old books too. Vastu shastra is part of our old religious books. It’s written in the Vastu shastra books only that the temple should be in the north-east zone and this has scientific reason. In all other old religious books it’s written that the God is omnipresent which contradicts it,
All the directions are natural and auspicious. Vastu shastra only guides us to make better use of the vital positive energy present in the sun rays so as the people could lead healthy, happy and prosperous life.
Chinese Feng Shui is similar to our Vastu shastra. As per Feng Shui temples should not necessarily be in the northeast zone. But the Vastu shastra and Feng Shui agree on one thing that the toilet and the septic tank should never be in the north-east zone. It makes the sun rays harmful. Toilets should also not be either above or below the temple, because it is inauspicious to have emission of gases and seepage of the water simultaneously.
Hence the north-east zone of the house should be lower and clean so that the sun rays create a clean atmosphere, which is full of vital energy. It makes the residents healthy, happy and prosperous.
